Job Description: Wastewater Utility Manager
The Wastewater Utility Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective operation of wastewater treatment facilities within the organization. This role requires a highly skilled and knowledgeable professional who can ensure compliance with regulations, manage personnel, and optimize wastewater treatment processes.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure the smooth operation of wastewater treatment facilities.
2. Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to wastewater treatment and discharge.
3. Monitor and evaluate wastewater treatment processes to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary modifications.
4. Manage and supervise a team of wastewater treatment plant operators, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
5. Ensure proper maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery used in wastewater treatment processes.
6. Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives aimed at improving wastewater treatment effectiveness and efficiency.
7. Prepare and manage budgets for wastewater treatment operations, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.
8. Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
9. Oversee the procurement and inventory management of chemicals, equipment, and supplies required for wastewater treatment.
10. Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies, management, and other stakeholders as required.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Wastewater Management, or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in wastewater treatment plant management, including comprehensive knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and regulations.
3. Strong understanding of environmental, health, and safety regulations and their application to wastewater treatment operations.
4. Proven experience in managing and leading a team of professionals in the wastewater industry.
5. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and address operational and technical challenges in wastewater treatment facilities.
6. Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, management, and employees.
8. Proficiency in using computerized systems and software for data analysis, reporting, and process control.
9. Professional certifications in wastewater treatment, such as Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator or Certified Environmental Professional, are highly desirable.
10. Strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement in wastewater treatment operations.
